Yes you can paint anything, even file or trim them to shape (for me, middle fingers are always too long). What you want to do rough up the surface slightly with a nail file before painting. Creating slight grooves in the surface gives the polish something to grip. If you don’t do it, it may still work, but the polish layer could slide off.

I have put clear coats over the top of some press-ons to extend life (makes them shiny when they start to dull and also disguises any lifting around the cuticles. It works great!

And in my experience (and I forgot about the filing so that may fix my problem) I had a brighter tip when I went straight to color.
