Polish is Clionadh Cosmetics psilocybin which I got during their surprise re-release earlier this month. I've got a patch on my pinky finger so don't mind the odd bump/line on there.

  1. That looks incredible. I can’t wait to see it in person!

Mine is 2 hours away but won’t arrive until the 23rd, allegedly 🙁

The photos are all color accurate, this truly is one of the shiftiest polishes I’ve ever encountered, so happy Clionadh brought this back.

    So, the magnets.

I used the 30lb horseshoe magnet on my thumb and pointer, 10 lb horseshoe magnet on my middle finger, and the Mani Mags on my ring and pinky fingers.

The 30lb and 10lb horseshoe magnets produce really REALLY similar results but there is a noticeable difference with the 30lb one producing a flashier shift effect (ie the polish is much shiftier as you move your hand around) and I’m glad I bought it; it’s also much easier to paint your finger while it’s on/in the magnet with the 30 lb one as it’s much larger.

The Mani Mag set is hands down the most convenient, affordable, and quickest way to do velvet nails but the effect is significantly different from the horseshoe magnets and I just don’t enjoy it as much with this particular polish. The prominent color with both horseshoe magnets is pink whereas the prominent color with the mani mag’s is blue which doesn’t affect all of the colors that I see in the shifts but does affect the overall appearance of the polish when I look at my hands when they’re not moving. Which color they pull is going to depend on whatever polish you’re using and it’s just going to be personal preference which one you like better.

I did the same experiment on my other hand with a different polish, Vanessa Molina let’s boogie up (July ’24 PPU). The 30lb horseshoe magnet again created the strongest and most impressive shifts (I’m obsessed with that thing now) but the Mani Mag’s created an pretty similar result without any of the variance that I saw in Psilocybin in regards to which color was prominent despite using the exact same process on every finger. The shiftiness on the Mani Mag fingers is noticeably less than what I see from the 10lb horseshoe but it’s still a nice velvet effect and the convenience factor is pretty significant.

Tl;Dr the 30lb horseshoe magnet is worth the hype and the Mani Mag set
