For the last few months Ive gone to a small local salon near my home & have finally got into gel nails instead of just admiring them on others lol My local salon doesn’t offer much besides simple gel designs and I’d like to try something different so I was looking at a new fancier place I’ve never been to. This was in their FAQ page & I would like to ask if this is standard for more “up scale” salons. Thank you!

  1. TL;DR we don’t pay our staff properly so you have to and we’d go so far as hiding the cost of an appointment from you in small print and sweeping it from your card later. I’d avoid this place like the plague.

this is not at all normal or common in the industry as someone who has been getting my nails done professionally for over a decade

Is it normal and legal for stores to save your credit card information? Where I live we pay with the card on the machine and the transaction is done directly with the bank.
The most the store will have access to is the last four card numbers.

They could never just charge more later, you would have to swipe the card again. How does this works?

If that’s the amount you’re supposed to pay that should be what they charge you, they should not be checking their receipts after and deciding you didn’t tip enough. This is shady.

  5. I’m not from the US so tipping culture isn’t a norm to me but I truly don’t understand what the point of this is when a salon/ nail tech can set their own prices… Corporations/chains are known for underpaying staff but as a local/ independent business, you have the power to price your services as you see fit so I’m not understanding the militancy?

  6. bruh. tipping culture is insane. pay! your! workers! proper! wages!!! stop depending on the customer to pick up your slack smh.

this is why i go to a priv nail tech who charges what she deserves/gives herself proper wages so tipping is optional (i always tip anyways and ofc tipped her because she never misses)
