  1. These are extensions made with gel and shellac. I apologize if I use the wrong terms, this was my first time in a nail salon and I don’t know much.

I absolutely love them !! I love having long nails ! It was fascinating to see the whole process. I know I’m about four months late with the yellow and lemons, but it was in Italy and it’s still very much summer there 🙂

Now, the shame is that I’ve realised I probably can’t box (with gloves) with nails this long. I’ll skip boxing for a week to enjoy my nails, but after that, can I easily shorten them ? Am I better off cutting them or filing them ?

And for removal… Is that something I can ‘easily’ do at home with acetone, or will I drive myself crazy and is it better to go see a pro. I mean they certainly seem solidly fused to my nails.

And out of curiosity, if I wanted to keep long nails, are these extensions something I could get ‘refilled’ at a salon, taking less long than the original process ? Or do you have to re-start from scratch everytime?

    Thank you everyone !!

  2. They’re so cute!! I love them!

Just for your own info, Shellac is gel. It’s just a brand, and was one of (if not THE) first one, so it’s what people said before just “gel” was a thing.

I probably wouldn’t box with them, but I’m in a wheelchair and mine get banged around a lot and I’ve thankfully never had a problem.

To shorten them, there’s a few things you can do, but if you have some big toenail clippers, you can totally just cut them and then file your nails to shape. They’ll be really thick, but at least the length with be gone.

If you want to remove them completely, acetone most likely won’t work. (Idk what the main product was that you got). Hard gel can only be filed off, and you’ll want to use a dremel. So I would only have them professionally removed.

If you’re going to a different salon, they will probably charge you for a full set the first time, as most salons don’t work overtop of other peoples’ work. So they’ll need to remove it fully and then start over. If you’re going to the same salon, just ask for a fill. They file down the bulk of the gel and colour, shorten the length, and then rebalance the apex and add the colour. A fill should only about 1-1.5 hours at most.
