I have been on the hunt for the perfect pinks and purples. You may have seen my previous post for Lurid Lacquer You of Unshakable Conviction. I had fallen in love with it after seeing swatch photos and was able to get it in a destash. TBH I ended up being a little disappointed, so I have been trying to figure out why.

I (believe) I have a warm olive complexion, with cool undertones. The warmer tone of YOUS was washing out with my skintone. By some random chance, I came across a video on YT briefly explaining the color wheel, color theory, and how that can be applied to polish and makeup. The cooler side of the color wheel (green, blue, indigo and violet) compliments my skintone because of my cool undertone.

Kathleen & Co If They Only Knew The You That We Know has a cooler base, which is more complimentary for me than Lurid’s You of Unshakable Conviction.

I’m also conflicted about Dam’s Dark Eyes Blossom, which leans more red. I was hoping for more of a purple after having seen photos, but this was another lesson in comparing skintones with my own.

Please let me know if you are more knowledgeable in this than I am and if I’m on the right track.

Hope this was helpful for you! I really enjoy the layout of the swatch sticks and bottles. I think it’s a great format for comparisons.
