Mooncat – Fields of lavender

I first discovered magnetics in gel form circa 2016. A nail artist told me cat eyes only came in gel and it’s “impossible” to have them in regular polish. I couldn’t wear gel, even though I loved this style. Imagine how happy I was when this summer I found that HT had magnetis! I added them to my order among other stuff but their magnetic collection is a bit boring to my taste. But then I discovered Mooncat… and I was in awe. I am obsessed with their magnetics, they have such a big variety! I also have Malevolent which I haven’t tried yet. AND I ordered 3 more magnetics form Cirque colors. Doing my little happy dance because I can wear cat eye again! What are your fav magnetic brands / shades / colors?

Ooh yes welcome to the rabbit hole 🤩 HT’s Twice in a Blue Moon was my gateway into magnetic polish, it’s a beautiful colour though not the most responsive.

My ult faves are Starrily’s Pluto and KBShimmer’s How Polarising, though I’ve found the latter’s polishes get very thick after a year or so and need a lot of thinner to get back to their original performance.

ILNP have great magnetic formula, a few of them have tiny metallic flakes in addition to the magnetic pigment which gives a beautiful depth and texture when magnetising. Fave is Enchantment, special mention to Poison and Zero Degrees.

A mildly controversial category is holo magnetics, personally I love them but they are more subtle than a regular linear holo. Mooncat have Quicksand’s Embrace in this formula; their polishes are pricier than other brands so there is a chance another indie could put one out at a lower price point if you did want to try.

Clionadh Cosmetics also have some very unique magnetics, multichrome magnetic pigments in a multichrome base! Super cool and mesmerising. Psilocybin gets a lot of love from this sub but they have a variety of multicoloured super shifty magnetics.

I’ve seen Fancy Gloss do some magnetics that also have a thermal base if that interests you! Thermals have their own considerations though as the pigment can stop working after a while.

Those are the brands I’ve tried and loved, being in the UK I don’t pay much attention to PPU and the like so there might be other indies that release interesting magnetic formulas! I often see videos from Kelli Marissa about Cadillacquer’s polishes and they have some amazing looking formulas, mildly sad I can’t access those here but ah well!

  2. ilnp sandbar was my first! she’s subtle in most lights but very elegant, and when the sun hits the holo sparkles?? nothing better. poison i’m for sure getting on black friday lol. i also like HT menchie cat eye—i find the crisp cat eye effect diffuses really quickly on that one _but_ i actually really like the diffused look with that one, it makes my nails look like cabachons. pictures really don’t do the color of that one justice

starrily’s hera is very pretty, and if they ever bring back their planets magnetic collection my wallet WILL be in danger 😅 i also have their magma topper, which is the only reason i didn’t immediately leap to buy fields of lavender lol, i love using that one over purple polishes a lot
